Junior Rifle and Archery League

Chester Junior Rifle and Archery League (CJRAL) is a youth centric shooting sports program that provides safe firearm handling and safe archery instruction to boys and girls ages 8 to 18 years old. It is guided by the national 4-H Shooting Sports program and is the largest such program in New England. All CJRAL instructors and teen leaders are trained through 4-H and have received appropriate instruction certifications.

The core CJRAL program currently focuses shooting sport activities: Rifle and Pistol, Archery, and Sporting Clays. The CJRAL provides structured training in all three areas from beginner to advanced participant levels.

The Chester Junior Rifle and Archery organization provides all required equipment needed – safety glass and ear protection, firearms, ammunition, bows and arrows, targets, etc. Participants are permitted to use their own equipment contingent upon approval by the Program Officers and after demonstrating safe handling and an understanding of basic safe shooting practices. All ammunition must be supplied by the Club – handloads or remanufactured ammunition is NOT ALLOWED.

The program starts in September and runs into June of each year – meeting every other Saturday from 8:45AM to 1:00PM. Current participant fees are $30.00 per youth, which allows participation in any or all of the areas of focus and covers all equipment and consumables. Donations to offset the program expenses are gratefully accepted.
